SGS has verified the carbon calculator for the Valtra tractor fleet, which calculates the Scope 1 emissions (direct emissions for the tractor’s user) based on GHG Protocol technical guidance. The calculator includes Carbon Dioxide emissions (CO2; emission factor from co2emissiefactoren.nl for fossil diesel) and possible Methane emissions (CH4; using conservative proxy data for Stage V engines, GWP value 36); NOx emissions are not included in the calculator. The fuel usage data is derived from AGCO’s Fuse® and includes primary fuel consumption data under varying field conditions. The four engine bucket loads denote: 0-25% regular driving mode, 25-50% loader mode, 50-75% mixed farming mode, 75-100% arable mode. The calculator includes a comparison with NesteMy renewable biodiesel for which emission factor is 0, given that the fuel use phase does not result in additional direct CO2 emissions.
